Be Aware – Danger Aware @ Groce United Methodist Church

A she and me event, girls bring an adult female role model (mom, grandma, aunt, friend, etc.) to learn how to recognize safe strangers and not-so safe strangers. Discover ways to protect yourself in dangerous situations. Program is instructed by Denise Wilbanks, a mom, teacher and crisis counselor. She has taught self-defense for more than 10 years, kickboxing for 20 years and has published a book on self-defense. She is driven to teach women how to defend themselves and empower them to stay safe.

GRADE LEVEL: Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies (grades K-3) and mothers/important female role models

Discover common sense techniques and develop situational awareness. This is NOT a martial arts class. We will train you physically, mentally and emotionally to stay safe. Program is instructed by Denise Wilbanks, a mom, teacher and crisis counselor. She has taught self-defense for more than 10 years, kickboxing for 20 years and has published a book on self-defense. She is driven to teach women how to defend themselves and empower them to stay safe.

Girl Scouts is in-tents, and we’ve got badges to prove it! Spend the day with us at KPC earning your new GSUSA Outdoor Badge! Girl Scout Brownies will go on an outdoor adventure while Girl Scout Cadettes will spend the day testing their archery skills and Girl Scout Seniors will explore the world of boats! Event will meet all requirements towards earning Girl Scout level appropriate Outdoor Badge.

Play It Up! Sports Sampler Day @ Crowder's Ridge Retreat Center

Have fun outdoors with coaches from across the area as we spring into sports. This event is for girls in elementary school. The price includes lunch and snacks. Bring a non-Girl Scout friend and receive a special gift! Sample sports such as soccer, dance, volleyball, karate, cheerleading and basketball, as well as explore camp, play wacky games and do a craft. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to PLAY IT UP!

Hiking Gals @ Catawba Falls

A me and my gal hiking adventure! Grab your favorite female adult and put on your hiking shoes. Enjoy the start of spring by hiking to Catawba Falls, through a few creek crossings and over a few rocks. Discover what spring has to offer by completing a fun outdoor scavenger hunt. This three-mile roundtrip has some ups and downs but isn’t too difficult. Catawba Falls are located near Old Fort, NC just three miles off of I-40. A fun patch for each girl is included. Each girl needs her own female adult (mom, grandma, aunt, friend, etc.). Siblings are welcome to share an adult. Carpooling is encouraged.

Want to learn more about survival skills? Of course you do! Join us for a fun session exploring creative ways to build fires and shelters. Even make your own survival kit. Enjoy a tasty snack while earning part of a badge. Cadettes will earn part of their New Cuisines badge and Seniors will earn part of their Locavore badge.

Each year, we honor our Gold and Silver Award recipients, as well as our volunteers who have achieved a Board-Approved award at an annual recognition event. Family and friends gather to recognize the service and leadership of girls who earn Girl Scouting’s highest awards and volunteers alike.

Invitations are sent to award recipients in April. All award recipients who wish to attend must RSVP. Attire for award recipients is a unifying look that includes sash/vest for displaying official pins and awards, combined with a solid white shirt and khaki pants/skirt or an official adult uniform. No shorts or flip flops.
