Be Smart, Be Safe – Danger Aware @ Groce United Methodist Church

A she and me event, girls bring an adult female role model (mom, grandma, aunt, friend, etc.) to learn how to even the playing field if you find yourself in a physical confrontation. Discover common sense techniques and develop situational awareness. This is NOT a martial arts class. We will train you physically, mentally and emotionally to stay safe. Program is instructed by Denise Wilbanks, a mom, teacher and crisis counselor. She has taught self-defense for more than 10 years, kickboxing for 20 years and has published a book on self-defense. She is driven to teach women how to defend themselves and empower them to stay safe.

GRADE LEVEL: Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors (grades 6-12) and mothers/important female role models

Girl Scouts is in-tents, and we’ve got badges to prove it! Spend the day with us at KPC earning your new GSUSA Outdoor Badge! Girl Scout Brownies will go on an outdoor adventure while Girl Scout Cadettes will spend the day testing their archery skills and Girl Scout Seniors will explore the world of boats! Event will meet all requirements towards earning Girl Scout level appropriate Outdoor Badge.

Want to learn more about survival skills? Of course you do! Join us for a fun session exploring creative ways to build fires and shelters. Even make your own survival kit. Enjoy a tasty snack while earning part of a badge. Cadettes will earn part of their New Cuisines badge and Seniors will earn part of their Locavore badge.

Virtual Gold Award Girl Chat Session

Ready for the Gold? Got a project idea? Get immediate feedback and develop your proposal. Be sure to view the GSCP2P Gold Award videos prior to attending the chat session. Either this virtual chat or the in-person chat meets the girl training requirements for the Gold award.

Prior to the virtual chat, complete the steps below:

  • STEP 1: Watch the three Gold Award videos – link provided above.
  • STEP 2: Have an adult in your troop taken the Gold Adult Learning Opportunity? Before you proceed, a registered Girl Scout adult must complete this course, in-person or online.
  • STEP 3: Create your Go Gold Online app account and start on steps 1-3.

(If you don’t have online access, contact a highest awards program manager).

  • STEP 4: Participate in a Girl Chat session. You can do this in-person or virtually.

GRADE LEVEL: Girl Scout Seniors, Ambassadors (grades 9-12)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: April 28, 2016

FEE: $3

BRING: You will need internet access, a computer/device that has a camera, microphone and speakers/headphones. To verify your technology will work with the web conferencing system, log in 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to the meeting to make any adjustments. Have access to a copy of the Girl Scout Gold Award Guidelines and the GSCP2P Gold Award Handbook.

Each year, we honor our Gold and Silver Award recipients, as well as our volunteers who have achieved a Board-Approved award at an annual recognition event. Family and friends gather to recognize the service and leadership of girls who earn Girl Scouting’s highest awards and volunteers alike.

Invitations are sent to award recipients in April. All award recipients who wish to attend must RSVP. Attire for award recipients is a unifying look that includes sash/vest for displaying official pins and awards, combined with a solid white shirt and khaki pants/skirt or an official adult uniform. No shorts or flip flops.
