ACT Like a Girl @ The Children's Theater of Winston-Salem

Learn everything about live theatre, from backstage to onstage, including auditions, casting, rehearsals and the technical aspects of lights, sound, set, props and costumes. The “ACT Like a Girl” patch also includes learning all about what it takes regarding volunteers, box office, house managing, marketing and sponsors. *Girls must participate in both Saturday workshops and also incorporate a two-hour volunteer component afterward.

Grab your dad and head down to camp to enjoy all your favorite activities from boats to climbing wall to archery, as well as do some pumpkin carving! We’ll provide all meals, staff and supplies – you just bring yourself! Fee includes a patch.

National Chemistry Day Celebration @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax

The Central North Carolina Section of the American Chemical Society is pleased to announce that it will sponsor “Chemistry Day” where local businesses and universities have teamed up to bring a number of activities exploring the positive impacts of chemistry and communicating the importance of chemistry to our quality of life. The fun will include hands-on activities, chemistry shows by UNCG, demonstrations from local business and colleges, badge work and snacks, drinks and various goodies. Come have some fun, and learn how we use chemistry every day!

Camp Sunshine Planning Meeting 1 @ Camp Ginger Cascades, Lenoir

At the first planning meeting, girls will select the theme, menu and activities and create a list of supplies that are needed. You will also go over some of the details of what you will do at the event and meet with the rest of the staff. Camp Sunshine staff is selected by application only and applications must have been received by October 1, 2013 to be considered. (See September online calendar for detailed description.)

Go Comparison Shopping @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax
Oct 28 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Girls will learn how to read a fact sheet on each college and do a comparison. They will choose one out of their three chosen colleges to sit in a circle and explain in detail why they chose this college as their favorite. Each girl in the circle will think of a PRO and a CON. Everyone will share their stories. This workshop meets Step 3 requirement for Financing My Future. A snack will be provided.

Assignment: Select three colleges that interest you and e-mail to pat@collegefundinginnovations.com by the registration deadline.

Gold and Silver Award Chat Session @ Hickory Service Center, Hickory

Attend a chat session to learn more about earning the Gold Award or Silver Award. During the 2013-2014 troop year, girls are REQUIRED to attend prior to beginning either their Gold or Silver Award project. Chat sessions are designed for girls specifically, but leaders and/or parents are welcome to attend as observers. These chat sessions will cover both Silver and Gold Awards. Girls attending the chat session will receive a copy of the appropriate GSCP2P information packet. You must pre-register for these chat sessions at least two weeks before the session date, unless otherwise noted. Fee for each chat session is $2/girl and helps offset the cost of materials. (Leaders and/or parents attend free of charge.)

Riding Obstacle Course- Riding Workshop @ Keyauwee Program Center, Sophia
Nov 2 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

This three-hour program will introduce riders to the skills and confidence needed to navigate their horse through various obstacles in the arena. Barn lessons will include construction and design of horse safe obstacles. This event is intended for troops with less than four members or individual registered Girl Scouts. If you would like to register a larger troop for this workshop, please contact Circle C Ranch.

Girl Scout Day at PARI @ Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, Rosman

You are invited to investigate the night sky with PARI astronomers! Activities will occur throughout the day that will allow Girl Scout Cadettes to meet the goals in the following items from the Night Owl topics: Step 1 – Go Solar, Step 4 – Explore the Night Sky, Step 5 – A Night Time Legend. Girl Scout Seniors will meet the goals in the following items from the Sky topics: Step 1 – 10 Constellations, 8 Stars requirement, Step 2 – Visit an Observatory or Planetarium, Step 4 – Investigate Light Pollution, Step 5 – Sky Stories from other cultures. Teams will rotate through sessions according to the agenda.
