National Chemistry Day Celebration @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax

The Central North Carolina Section of the American Chemical Society is pleased to announce that it will sponsor “Chemistry Day” where local businesses and universities have teamed up to bring a number of activities exploring the positive impacts of chemistry and communicating the importance of chemistry to our quality of life. The fun will include hands-on activities, chemistry shows by UNCG, demonstrations from local business and colleges, badge work and snacks, drinks and various goodies. Come have some fun, and learn how we use chemistry every day!

GRADE LEVEL: All Girl Scouts (grades K-12) and troop leaders, parents

Go Comparison Shopping @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax
Oct 28 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Girls will learn how to read a fact sheet on each college and do a comparison. They will choose one out of their three chosen colleges to sit in a circle and explain in detail why they chose this college as their favorite. Each girl in the circle will think of a PRO and a CON. Everyone will share their stories. This workshop meets Step 3 requirement for Financing My Future. A snack will be provided.

Assignment: Select three colleges that interest you and e-mail to pat@collegefundinginnovations.com by the registration deadline.

Fall Girl Scout Day at Chimney Rock Park @ Chimney Rock Park

Enjoy the day exploring Chimney Rock Park. Nearly 1,000 acres make an interesting backdrop to a variety of nature programs that are both informative and fun! Girl Scout Day at PARI @ Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, Rosman

You are invited to investigate the night sky with PARI astronomers! Activities will occur throughout the day that will allow Girl Scout Cadettes to meet the goals in the following items from the Night Owl topics: Step 1 – Go Solar, Step 4 – Explore the Night Sky, Step 5 – A Night Time Legend. Girl Scout Seniors will meet the goals in the following items from the Sky topics: Step 1 – 10 Constellations, 8 Stars requirement, Step 2 – Visit an Observatory or Planetarium, Step 4 – Investigate Light Pollution, Step 5 – Sky Stories from other cultures. Teams will rotate through sessions according to the agenda.

Spend the day working on your Geocaching Skill Builder badge by exploring the newly revamped geocaching course at Camp Ginger Cascades. Use a compass and GPS unit to discover hidden wonders as you cruise the trails in this outdoor adventure challenge! Cost includes use of equipment, swap activities, patch and a hearty snack!

Intro to Theatre Workshop & Mulan Jr. Production @ Flat Rock Playhouse

Flat Rock Playhouse presents a behind-the-scenes theatre workshop for Girl Scouts and access to Disney’s Mulan Jr. production by the YouTheatre students. Pre-show workshop activities include theatre movement, games and communication. Find your  voice, learn to project and also sing with a group. Discover your acting skills! Tour the main stage, costume, props and art education building. 

The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m.- Noon at the Flat Rock Playhouse main stage. Please plan to arrive by 9:15 a.m. The Mulan Jr. production will run from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Playhouse downtown (125 South Main Street, Hendersonville). Lunch is on your own and you will have to have transportation between the two sites.

It’s Your World, Change It! @ Keyauwee Program Center, Sophia

Come to camp for the day and do a variety of activities pulled from the It’s Your World, Change It! Journey and the Using Your Resources Wisely petal. The whole journey will not be completed in this day. PLEASE NOTE: You can also stay overnight, with dinner, breakfast and activities provided through 11 a.m. on Sunday morning for an extra $20/per girl.
