Rescheduling for Fall 2015!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, City of Asheville Fire Department is rescheduling this event. As soon as a date is determined, it will be updated on this website.

Usually Girl Scouts learn to build fires. What do you do when it gets out of hand? Make sure you are a part of this exciting experience designed to help girls develop courage, confidence and build character while introducing them to a rescue career field. Try your hand at first aid skills, learn what happens when you call 911 and discover ways to prevent fires. Can you manage a firefighting hose? Try it out. Girls need to know they are smart enough, strong enough and brave enough to pursue a career as a firefighter. Only 3.4% of fire professionals are female. Work side by side with a firefighting professional. Have fun trying to beat that firefighter in the water brigade relay! Firefighters work with water on a daily basis. You might want to bring a change of clothes for the end of the day – there is the possibility of getting wet. The event is sponsored by the City of Asheville Fire Department.

GRADE LEVEL: Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors (grades 6-12) and troop leaders

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 7, 2015

GIRL FEE: $7

BRING: bag lunch, water bottle, tennis shoes or closed toe shoes, appropriate clothes for the weather, change of clothes in case you get wet

Camp Sunshine is a leadership program for girls in grades 8-12. These older Girl Scouts work together as a staff to plan and facilitate an overnight camping experience for younger girls in grades 3-5, whom are not currently Girl Scouts. This REQUIRED orientation will give you an overview of the program, as well as information about how to apply for Camp Sunshine positions. The girl staff expands their leadership and organizational skills while designing and facilitating the program. Camp Sunshine staff are selected by application only and applications are due by October 4, 2015.

If selected, girls must be available to attend the following meetings and trainings to be held at Camp Ginger Cascades: *October 25, November 15, January 24, February 21 – all from 2-4 p.m., as well as a required overnight training March 12-13. The Camp Sunshine event is scheduled for April 15-17, 2016.
