Inside Look at Christmas Town USA @ Pharr Family YMCA

In addition to the activities described in the “Behind the Scenes of Christmas Town USA” program listing, girls will lend a hand at McAdenville’s innagural 5-k and 1-mile fun run on Novemer 30 and attend the town’s holiday party after viewing the lights on December 3.

Behind-the-Scenes of Christmas Town USA @ Pharr Family YMCA

In a typical season, more than 600,000 visitors view the lights of McAdenville, generating an annual impact of $11.8 million on the local economy. Join city planners, long-time residents and representatives from the company responsible for stringing all those lights on October 1st for a behind-the-scenes look at Christmas Town USA. Then, join your sister Girl Scouts for a stroll through McAdenville to enjoy the lights on December 3.

Gold and Silver Award Chat Session @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax
Dec 5 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Attend a chat session to learn more about earning the Gold Award or Silver Award. During the 2013-2014 troop year, girls are REQUIRED to attend prior to beginning either their Gold or Silver Award project. Chat sessions are designed for girls specifically, but leaders and/or parents are welcome to attend as observers. These chat sessions will cover both Silver and Gold Awards. Girls attending the chat session will receive a copy of the appropriate GSCP2P information packet. You must pre-register for these chat sessions at least two weeks before the session date, unless otherwise noted. Fee for each chat session is $2/girl and helps offset the cost of materials. (Leaders and/or parents attend free of charge.)

Mammal Safari Camp-In @ The Schiele Museum of Natural History, Gastonia
Dec 6 @ 6:30 pm – Dec 7 @ 9:00 am

Learn about mammals from all over the world including Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas. Spend the night at the Schiele Museum, explore the exciting mammal exhibit and meet live animals. Find out about animal habitats, explore the connection between humans and animals and learn about issues affecting animals. Program will include activities from the Girl Scout Junior Animal Habitats badge, Girl Scout Cadette Animal Helpers badge and Girl Scout Senior Voice for Animals badge. Girls will learn how to set motivating goals, sample the brand new cookie flavor and complete several requirements for their Cookie Business badge in the Girl’s Guides! The cookie rally is a high-energy, good time with games, prizes and fun for all age levels! *PLEASE NOTE: The two events at the Girl Scout Learning Center are divided by different age levels.

Artist Larry Heath manipulates tin by cutting and bending to make 3-D sculptures. After viewing his exhibit, we will use aluminum soda cans to create 3-D angels that can be used as ornaments. We will also choose from a large variety of recycled items to make an animal or person sculpture. PLEASE NOTE: Must be sixth grade or older due to safety precautions. To register, e-mail Ginny Zellmer at gzellmer@hickorymuseumofart.org or call 828-327-8576. Payment due at time of registration.
