Techbridge: Crazy Carnival @ TBD

Welcome to a crazy carnival of your own creation. Explore simple machines as you build a merry-go-round, a bean-bag toss and a race car. Levers, pulleys, screws and gears abound as you engineer the ultimate playground. *Girls must attend both sessions to complete this Techbridge Box.

Program Aide Training Overnight @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax

Get ready to put leadership skills into action! Learn how to work with younger Girl Scouts. Fee includes cold breakfast and pizza lunch on Saturday. Bring snacks and a water bottle. Sleeping is on the floor. *At the January event, girls will have the option to stay for a planning session for the World Thinking Day event until 4 p.m. Saturday.

Geocacher & Hiker @ The North Carolina Arboretum, Asheville
Feb 8 @ 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Girl Scout Juniors will enjoy a high-tech scavenger hunt through The North Carolina Arboretum while earning the Geocacher badge. Plan a trip, learn about caches, trade items and explore the trails. This program is designed for Juniors, but if Brownies are in attendance they will have the option of earning the Hiker badge. Girls are welcome to attend without adults in attendance. Arboretum educators serve as adults required for safety ratios. Girl Scouts are encouraged with groups/troops that register together to meet safety ratios. Find out what the Journeys do for girls. Combine the Journeys, Girls’ Guide and skill badges to build a powerful program for girls! Practice customizing activities. You’ll leave more comfortable with the program and more confident in its benefits. (Trainfest and some Traveling Circuses also offer this course.)

Techbridge Complete Introduction @ Hickory Service Center
Feb 18 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Take part in the Techbridge Complete Introduction class to learn about all five of the Techbridge boxes and how to facilitate girls through hands-on activities and career opportunities. You will take home hands-on activities as well as tips on how to set up career exploration activities that include field trips to companies and classroom visits by role models. Course fee covers materials used for YOUR scientific explorations as well as goodies to take home. If you are interested in a training on a specific box, please contact Valerie Wooten at vwooten@girlscoutsp2p.org. (Leaderee, Trainfest, Leaderfest and some Traveling Circuses also offer this course.)

World Thinking Day: Universal Access To Primary Education @ Girl Scout Learning Center

Join us for a fun morning where we discover other countries, explore their culture and countries while taking action by participating on one of the United Nation’s (UN) Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) about Girl Scout and Girl Guides around the world. A snack will be provided.

In celebration of World Thinking Day, girls will make art from around the globe. You will create a Chinese dragon using shiny papers, glitter and markers. An African mask will be made from paper, paint and raffia. Learn a bit about the Hmong culture from the Museum’s traveling trunk that includes clothing and other artifacts.
