Girls to the Rescue @ Local 865 Fireman’s Camp

Due to unforeseen circumstances, City of Asheville Fire Department is rescheduling this event. As soon as a date is determined, it will be updated on this website. 

Usually Girl Scouts learn to build fires. What do you do when it gets out of hand? Make sure you are a part of this exciting experience designed to help girls develop courage, confidence and build character while introducing them to a rescue career field. Try your hand at first aid skills, learn what happens when you call 911 and discover ways to prevent fires. Can you manage a firefighting hose? Try it out. Girls need to know they are smart enough, strong enough and brave enough to pursue a career as a firefighter. Only 3.4% of fire professionals are female. Work side by side with a firefighting professional. Have fun trying to beat that firefighter in the water brigade relay! Firefighters work with water on a daily basis. You might want to bring a change of clothes for the end of the day – there is the possibility of getting wet. The event is sponsored by the City of Asheville Fire Department.

GRADE LEVEL: Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors (grades 2-5) and troop leaders

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 7, 2015

GIRL FEE: $5

BRING: water bottle, tennis shoes or closed toe shoes, appropriate clothes for the weather, change of clothes in case you get wet

Chimney Rock’s Scout Days are among our most popular events all year. Afternoon options

  • Your admission is good for the whole day, so enjoy the Park! You can leave for lunch or do some sightseeing in the Village; just check back in with the Ticket Plaza staff when you return.
  • We will open the 32-foot Climbing Tower exclusively to Girl Scouts from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Information on how to register is below. Want your Girl Scouts to try the real thing? Sign up for a guided rock climbing clinic with Fox Mountain Guides.
  • Girl Scouts can become Certified Junior Rangers! All Girl Scouts will be eligible to be certified as Chimney Rock State Park Jr. Rangers! By participating in the programs and finishing the Jr. Ranger workbook throughout the day, your girl will leave with a unique patch and a certificate of completion.

Climbing Tower – $2 per person; sign up when you register for event. Reservation time for climbing will be given in the order registrations are received for Girl Scout Day, so call to register soon! Please note, the minimum weight requirement for climbing is 50 lbs.

Overnight Campout – $8 per person to camp under the stars in the shadow of Chimney Rock Mountain! This is one of the only times you can camp at Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park and it’s an experience Girl Scouts have loved for many years! We’ll provide fire rings and firewood; campers provide all their own equipment and food. All camp set-up and breakdown details will be provided with your registration itinerary. GRADE LEVEL: All Girl Scouts (grades K-12) and troop leaders, parents

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Until Full

GIRL FEE: $15 includes admission, all programs, program materials and one patch

ADULT FEE: One adult per 10 Girl scouts is required and admitted at no cost; $12 per additional adult when registered with the group; otherwise adults are $15 each

OTHERS: Additional non-scout youth (ages 5-15): $5.50 each when registered with the group; otherwise $7 each

BRING: bag lunch, water bottle or purchase at nearby café; wear sturdy shoes

Baseball & Camping with the Asheville Tourists @ McCormick Field
May 30 @ 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm

The Asheville Tourists are inviting all Girl Scout troops to attend a game at McCormick Field on Saturday, May 30.  After the game, Girl Scout troops are invited to campout on the field and watch a movie on the big screen.  For only $10, Girl Scouts will receive a reserved seat ticket to the game, souvenir Girl Scout Night patch and a meal voucher good for a hot dog, chips and drink.  All Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game Girl Scout parade on the field.  Troops will be recognized over the PA system.  Parents and family can receive admission to the game for only $6!  For more information or to order tickets, e-mail Michelle Buss or call 828-258-0428 ext. 214.

Girl Scouts Explore Biltmore @ Biltmore Estate

What is over 119 years old and has 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms and 65 fireplaces? Let me give you another clue. This place also has a bowling alley and swimming pool inside of it. Still wondering? All Girl Scouts are invited to explore The Biltmore Estate. Special activities at the farm will be offered, in addition to self-guided tours of the largest home in America. Close your eyes and imagine yourself living in the luxurious family home or spending your afternoon in the beautiful gardens. There is a small cost for popular activities and food to support the camp scholarship fund.

Come check out camp and meet the 2015 summer staff! Program areas will be open for you and your family to try out and enjoy! Take this opportunity to tour camp and get all your questions answered. Touring camp is free, but to help raise money for the camp scholarship fund, we provide some of our most popular activities and sell food for a small cost. All profits help send girls to camp!
