Usually Girl Scouts learn to build fires. What do you do when it gets out of hand? Make sure you are a part of this exciting experience designed to help girls develop courage, confidence and build character while introducing them to a rescue career field. Try your hand at first aid skills, learn what happens when you call 911 and discover ways to prevent fires. Can you manage a firefighting hose? Try it out. Girls need to know they are smart enough, strong enough and brave enough to pursue a career as a firefighter. Only 3.4% of fire professionals are female. Work side by side with a firefighting professional. Have fun trying to beat that firefighter in the water brigade relay! Firefighters work with water on a daily basis. You might want to bring a change of clothes for the end of the day – there is the possibility of getting wet. The event is sponsored by the City of Asheville Fire Department.
GRADE LEVEL: Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors (grades 2-5) and troop leaders

Come get CRAZED about camp! Come play at camp for the day with our staff. We provide all program activities, which may include swimming, canoeing, climbing, cascading, crafts, games and more!

Discover rock climbing! Join Thrifty Adventures for a half-day introduction to the awesome sport of rock climbing. No experience necessary. During this course you will learn basic knots, climbing techniques, safety practices and checks, as well as climbing terms and lingo.
Please Note: The approach to the climbing area is less then a 1/2 mile on a gravel trail with little change in elevation. There is a short staircase down to the climbing area that is steep. Thrifty Adventures will have guides spotting everyone as they descend the stairs; if needed the guides can carry your bag down the stairs for added safety!
Participants must provide their own transportation to site and must provide their own food and plenty of water. Climbing gear provided by Thrifty Adventures. If the morning session fills, an afternoon session is available. If we happen to fill both sessions, Thrifty Adventures will open the following Sunday. Please note: Bring an appropriate back pack to carry gear, food and water. All climbers must be “hands-free” for hiking to and from climbing locations (string bags are not good for this type of activity).
Let’s top off a great summer with a wonderful day with friends, laughing and learning and gearing up for a new Girl Scout year! Our morning focuses on the updates you need for the new Girl Scout year, as well as a fun, interactive laugh and learn presentations for the group. Girls Go Techbridge Train the Trainer (1 to 4:15 p.m.): Learn how to deliver training on the Girls Go Techbridge program, so that your trainees are ready to facilitate a hands-on introduction to engineering activities with their girls.
Be in the Know with Hooti! (1 to 2:30 p.m.): All Adult Learning Specialists are cordially invited to participate in this session to “get wise” to the latest position and adult learning in general. You’ll “fly away” with valuable tools to get your Girl Scout year in high gear. So…… whooooooo’s with me?
What’s in Your Facilitator Toolbox? (1 to 2:30 p.m.): Tips, techniques, and tricks for Facilitators – quick, easy (and inexpensive!) ways to enhance your courses and keep your audience focused and interested.
Test It Out! Learning Lab 2015 – (available 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 to 4:15 p.m.): Come learn with a hands-on approach! So much as been added as resources for our volunteers. Why not test out a few courses on your own? Volunteer Essentials has been revamped in a fun and interactive way. Participants will be able to drag and drop, click links and even pause the course throughout. There is also a new interactive grade level course, which is designed to be an easy resource for volunteers as they begin their Girl Scout journey with the girls. Take the time to look through the courses in this session. You can also just look around on our learning site or ask any questions that you may have. Don’t miss out on this exciting and self-guided session!
“Being There” for Your New Leader (2:45 to 4:15 p.m.): How a New Leader Coach begins her relationship with a new leader sets the tone for the entire relationship. Join us to find the answers to the questions: What is coaching? What is your role in building that relationship? What are the rewards for not only you as the coach/mentor, but for the new leader and for the organization? Gather practical suggestions to build your communication skills and take a look at several key tasks to help you become an effective coach/mentor.
Learning Styles – Fact or Fiction? (2:45 to 4:15 p.m.): You may know a bit about learning styles, but did you know that there is a debate about their existence? In this session we will discuss “learning styles” and what impact they may have on us as learners and facilitators. Find out about this controversy. Come with your own ideas and share with the group. Plans include a paper and pencil inventory that you can complete on your own.
Arrgghh ye’ mates, it’s time to explore the seven seas of… Keyauwee! This weekend is jam-packed with activities to see if the pirate’s life is for you. You and your crew will work as a team to search for hidden treasure, explore the waters through boating and swimming, nighttime activities and learning the survival skills you will need out at sea. At the end of the weekend, participate in an ultimate all-camp pirate challenge to see which crew is the toughest of them all! Anchors Away! Event includes all meals, accommodations, programming and an event patch.
