Behind-the-Scenes of Christmas Town USA @ Pharr Family YMCA

In a typical season, more than 600,000 visitors view the lights of McAdenville, generating an annual impact of $11.8 million on the local economy. Join city planners, long-time residents and representatives from the company responsible for stringing all those lights on October 1st for a behind-the-scenes look at Christmas Town USA. Then, join your sister Girl Scouts for a stroll through McAdenville to enjoy the lights on December 3.

Inside Look at Christmas Town USA @ Pharr Family YMCA

In addition to the activities described in the “Behind the Scenes of Christmas Town USA” program listing, girls will lend a hand at McAdenville’s innagural 5-k and 1-mile fun run on November 30 and attend the town’s holiday party after viewing the lights on December 3.

Trees! @ The North Carolina Arboretum, Asheville

Girl Scout Cadettes will have the opportunity to earn their Trees Badge by exploring the trails, discovering the science of trees, how to identify their unique qualities, how they grow and why they are so important to us and the environment. Girls are welcome to attend without adults in attendance. Arboretum educators serve as adults required for safety ratios. Girl Scouts are encouraged with groups/troops that register together to meet safety ratios. Register online at www.ncarboretumregistration.org. Girls will learn the basics of sewing in this 2-hour course, including how to operate a sewing machine and create hidden and french seams. The cost includes all supplies and girls will take home their very own pillow-case creation!

It’s Never Too Early to Plan for College @ Girl Scout Learning Center, Colfax

Learn about available options for saving for college and the impact on financial aid. Understand and budget for the total cost of college. College and retirement – both are possible. Dispel myths between public vs. private colleges. Find out what steps students and parents should be taking in grades 6-8. Develop best practices for school selection.

High Point University Volleyball Game/Tour @ Millis Center- High Point University

Girl Scouts Volleyball FlyerBring your troop to the High Point University v. Liberty University women’s volleyball match on Saturday, Oct. 12. Troops who register for the event will have the chance for a pregame locker room tour and talk with the coach, as well as, post-game autographs.

Gold and Silver Award Chat Session @ Asheville Service Center, Asheville
Oct 14 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Attend a chat session to learn more about earning the Gold Award or Silver Award. During the 2013-2014 troop year, girls are REQUIRED to attend prior to beginning either their Gold or Silver Award project. Chat sessions are designed for girls specifically, but leaders and/or parents are welcome to attend as observers. These chat sessions will cover both Silver and Gold Awards. Girls attending the chat session will receive a copy of the appropriate GSCP2P information packet. You must pre-register for these chat sessions at least two weeks before the session date, unless otherwise noted. Fee for each chat session is $2/girl and helps offset the cost of materials. (Leaders and/or parents attend free of charge.)
