Girl Scout Staff Member Receives Girl Scout Award- Lincoln County

Volunteers are the heart of the Girl Scout organization and every year, Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont (GSCP2P) honors those exceptional volunteers who have gone above and beyond- in time, skills and responsibilities.

Kimberly Surace of Iron Station was recently honored during the annual adult awards ceremony as part of the 2017 GSCP2P Annual Meeting in Statesville. Surace received the Appreciation Award, which recognizes a registered adult Girl Scout who has delivered outstanding service and contributes to the achievement of the council’s goals in at least one service area.

Surace stepped up to lead a multi-level troop of over 40 girls. She never turned a girl away and delivered an excellent Girl Scout program to four levels of girls. She also serves as an adult learning facilitator and Techbridge facilitator for the council, and has recently joined the council staff in the Gastonia Service Center. She is extremely selfless in all that she does and makes everyone feels at ease when they are unsure about something.

“Every volunteer helps create memorable and exceptional experiences for our girls,” said GSCP2P CEO Lane Cook. “Whether it’s leading a troop every week, exploring nature at camp, facilitating a LEGO robotics workshop or planning trips so girls can experience new things, our volunteers serve as positive role models every day.”

GSCP2P relies on volunteers to help deliver the Girl Scout program to girls throughout their 40 counties and would not be able to fulfill their mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character without them.
