Location: Keyauwee Program Center (2574 Sweetbriar Rd, Sophia, NC 27350)

This two-week opportunity is for 11th grade campers who are ready to begin the pathway to camp leadership at overnight camp. During their first week, Counselors-in-Training (CITs) will have training on topics such as introduction to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, age and social characteristics of younger campers, essential skills needed to be a great counselor and how to lead songs and games. During their second week, CITs will split their time between training sessions and shadowing camp staff working with younger campers. They will observe the unit and program staff, evaluate experiences and receive guidance from the CIT Coordinator as they assist in units. During both weeks, CITs will spend nights in their own unit and receive ongoing supervision and leadership guidance from the CIT Coordinator, while building teamwork skills and observing unit staff.

  • IMPORTANT: CITs will need to be picked up on Friday like any other camper for both weeks of their stay. CITs will not be staying at camp the weekend between their two weeks at camp.

PREREQUISITE: Program Aide Award or six volunteer hours working with younger girls

  • All sessions: All campers will have the option to join us one afternoon to meet the horses and enjoy a fun, unmounted activity where they'll learn all about our awesome horses!

We know that many of our Girl Scouts need camp now more than ever and travel to Keyauwee may be challenging, so GSCP2P will

continue to offer transportation assistance from the Asheville and Hickory Service Centers certain weeks this summer to make sure

every member has access to our summer camp programs this year. Transportation assistance is available for full-week campers during the Lights, Camera, Camp! week (June 21-26, 2026) and Magic and Mysteries week (July 12-17, 2026) only. Transportation sign-ups are due by May 17, 2026. Campers will be transported in either council-owned vans or charter buses, depending on interest and availability. Please complete this form here after you have registered for your camp session.

Note: Please provide accessibility, mobility information, and if you have a preferred name in the provided "Special Circumstances" section during registration.
